Spurned lover held for attack on girl
A spurned lover attempted to slit a girl’s throat in broad daylight on Tuesday in Ayanavaram.

The accused Solomon Raja (23) of Solai Street is an electrician by profession, while the girl, a minor, is in her first year of college, said police. The two had been in a relationship for a while, and after the opposition from girl’s parents, she reportedly started avoided him.
Infuriated over her attitude, Solomon wanted to ‘teach her a lesson’ and stopped her while she was on her way to the college on Tuesday on Raju Street. An argument erupted between them, and Solomon Raja who had a knife with him suddenly tried to slit her throat. Shocked, the girl blocked the knife with her hand and suffered injuries.
Hearing her cries for help, passers-by rushed to her rescue, while Solomon Raja escaped from the scene. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and based on her complaint, Ayanavaram police arrested Solomon Raja and remanded him in judicial custody.
