The two have been running a tea shop at V M Garden in MC Road, from where they also ran a IPL betting network during this season of cricket matches, police alleged. Police said ever since the season started, lot of people started thronging the shop to watch cricket on the TV set up in the shop. What police initially failed to notice was that the father and son were also running a betting network of gamblers who were ready to bet on IPL scores, match results, individual scores etc. Police became suspicious about the activities during the last two days, and arrested the two on Thursday after confirming that the illegal betting activity was going on at the tea shop. Police also seized Rs 15,000 cash from them.

Police estimate that the daily betting amount could vary from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 and those who won the bet would be paid their money next morning. Those refusing to pay the betting amount would be removed from the betting group created on WhatsApp, said police.
