Landlord murdered over rent dispute in Tiruvallur

A 45-year-old landlord was murdered by a tenant after a quarrel between them over non-payment of rent for the last few months at Vellavedu in Tiruvallur district. Police arrested the accused Devaraj and remanded him in judicial custody

The incident happened on Friday when the victim Vadivel cut the power supply to Devaraj’s house as he did not pay rent for four months. 

Devaraj, a mason, returned from work and questioned Vadivel about the power cut, which resulted in an argument erupted between them. An infuriated Devaraj hit Vadivel with a crowbar and killed him on the spot.

On information, Vellavedu police rushed to the spot recovered Vadivel’s body and sent to for autopsy to the nearby government hospital. They also arrested Devaraj for the crime. 

Police sources said that deceased house owner Vadivel is a murder accused and was recently out on bail. Vadivel allegedly threatened to murder Devaraj if he continues to stay in his house without paying rent. However, Devaraj killed Vadivel fearing for his life, said police. While Vadivel has two daughters and one son, Devaraj has a son.  

Drunken brawl turns fatal for man, two held

In another incident, a 46-year-old man who suffered injuries in a drunken brawl in Royepettah died on Sunday, following which police arrested two youth on charges of murder. 

The deceased R Harikrishnan of Royepattah on Saturday night consumed liquor, along with M Ashok (24) and Y Karthik (30) of the same locality, at a Tasmac bar in Royapettah. An argument erupted between them and the duo allegedly punched Harikrishnan in his face, in which he fell unconscious on the spot.

He was rushed to the Royapettah Government Hospital where he died on Sunday. Police converted the case as murder and remanded them under Section 302 of the IPC.
