The leaders of various farmers’ organisations held a joint meeting at Grant Anicut and passed resolutions seeking the declaration of delta areas as protected agricultural zones. Cauvery Rights Retrieval Committee coordinator P Maniarasan, who took part in the meeting, asserted that they had resolved to agitate till the Cauvery Management Board is formed. Popular film director Bharathiraja, who also took part in the meeting expressed his support to the farmers’ protests and vowed to protest till the Cauvery Management Board is formed.

Christian Bishops of all denominations under the aegis of Christian Nallenna Iyakkam would hold protest demonstrations at Chepauk on April 28. Speaking on its behalf, its organiser Inigo Irudhayaraj said, “It is very rare since the Bishops do not come for agitations for a cause other than religious ones. This is not a political gathering but a protest by Christian priests of all the denominations.”

Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi leader T Velmurugan also announced a protest at the Marina on May 29 and said the police should permit their agitation. If the police tried to suppress the protests by high handed actions, the protesters too would be forced to find different ways. “Our response will depend on the kind of police action,” he said.
