Justice T Raja before whom the petition from Child Welfare Committee, Govt Children’s Home, Chengalpattu, seeking a direction to medically terminate the pregnancy of the girl at the earliest came up, directed termination and sought the dean to preserve the fetus.

The girl was raped by a known person five months ago following which a case was registered and she was admitted at the Christ Faith Home for children at Manapakkam.

However, on realising that she was pregnant, the home sent a letter to the HOD of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chengalpattu Medical College and Hospital, seeking medical advice regarding continuation of her pregnancy.

After examination, it was found that the minor girl was pregnant with single intra-uterine pregnancy of around 18 weeks gestational age and that adolescent pregnancy is prone to higher risk of complications like pregnancy- induced hypertension, anemia, CPD, pre-term birth and increased infections.
