The incident took place at house of one Deivakumar (50) that is located on Fifth Main Road in Natesan Nagar on Sunday night. Deivakumar, a computer dealer, was alone in his house as his wife and children were out of town for summer vacation.
Deivakumar went to sleep in one of the two rooms in his house on Sunday night. When he went to the other room on Monday, he found that the almirah inside the room was pulled close to the window, with its doors open facing the window.
Shocked, Deivakumar checked inside and found eight sovereigns was stolen. The burglars used hooklike rods to pull the almirah closer to the window, and had also poured oil on the floor to prevent the noise when it is pulled. The suspects had also used flexible hose found in the premise to pull it close to the window.
Based on his complaint, Virugambakkam police have registered a case and gathered evidence from the house. Police suspect that the gang behind the burglary could be trained bureau-pullers and might have noticed that Deivakumar was staying alone in the house before fixing it as their target. Further investigation is on.
Bureau pulling thefts used to be a major headache for city police till two years ago. But such crimes were brought down through continuous patrolling and arrest of serial burglars.
