Why is Chennai missing out on rain while other districts record high rainfall?

Districts get rainfall when winds from opposite directions converge. This does not happen in Chennai. We get wind from the east and that is why Chennai records poor rainfall during this season.

Is there any possibility of summer rain like last year?

Chennai recorded good rainfall in 2016 summer as cyclone ‘Roanu’, came close to Chennai coast. Similarly, there were wind disturbances during 2017 summer too. Chennai has a chance to get rain if there is low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. However, there is no possibility of a thunderstorm in Chennai for the next few days.

What is the reason for  mercury rise in the city?

It is a fact that mercury is rising, and it is because the angle of the sun is directly over the Indian subcontinent. When winds change from East to West, it can also increase the temperature.
