The tanker which took a sudden turn to enter an apartment hit her. Susheela and passersby rushed her to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw. But doctors at the hospital said she was brought dead. Her body was sent to Chromepet government hospital for post mortem examination.

The lorry driver, Sathish (21), of Chinna Salem, escaped from the spot and surrendered himself at the Pallikaranai police station. He was later handed over to the St Thomas Mount traffic investigation police.

Dhanusree’s father, Murugan, is running a beauty parlour in Mudichur and the incident happened a few minutes after he left for work. “Dhanusree was adamant to go with his father, but we pursued her not to go and promised to buy her chocolates,” said lamenting family members.

The residents complained that this was the third fatal accident in the locality in the last one week, and added that menace of tanker lorries in the summer season should be contained.
