Cop’s phone snatched, public catch culprit
Public chased and caught a youth who tried to escape after snatching the mobile phone of an Armed Reserve police personnel when he was travelling on a bus, near Chennai Central railway station early on Monday.

According to sources, the incident took place when Gavaskar (26), who is attached to St Thomas Mount Armed Reserve police, was returning home after seeing off a friend at Central railway station around 4.15 am. He boarded a bus at RGGGH bus stop to reach St Thomas Mount. Suddenly, a man took the Gavaskar’s mobile phone from his pocket, got down from the bus and started running.
The policeman raised an alarm, which caught the attention of the public. Together, they chased and caught the thief, who was handed over to the Flower Bazar police station.
After preliminary investigation, police identified him as Sunil (23), hailing from Nelloor in Andhra Pradesh. Further investigation is on.
