Summer training programme to help rural post-graduate students
Sciences, under University of Madras, is organising an annual summer training programme in physical sciences, chemical sciences, biological sciences and mathematical sciences in the month of May and June.

The programme is mainly focused to enrich and update scientific knowledge of rural college students of Tamil Nadu. For each discipline, 20 students from rural colleges and 10 local college students with a total of 30 first year M Sc students from different parts of Tamil Nadu were selected.
The outstation students are paid travelling allowance and provided with accommodation at Anna University Hostel at the free of cost. This programme is organized with the financial support of Science City, Government of Tamil Nadu.
This year the programme is being conducted for 21 days from May 24–June 13, 2018. The inaugural function of the programme was held on May 24 at the Chemical Sciences Auditorium at University of Madras’s Guindy Campus. V Devanathan, former Head of the Department of Nuclear Physics and President of the academy delivered the presidential address while Maruthamuthu, Vice President of the Academy and former Vice Chancellor Madurai-Kamaraj University delivered the special address.
M K Surappa, Vice Chancellor, Anna University, inaugurated the programme and insisted the importance of science education during his speech. Initially, R. Asokamani, Secretary of the Academy of Sciences welcomed the guests and students in his welcome address. J Kumar, in-charge of seminars, The Academy of Sciences presented the vote of thanks.
