Jasna Maria James from Pathanamthitta district, a second-year degree student at St Thomas College Kanjirappally, had left her home near Erumeli on March 22. According to relatives, she had called up her aunt to inform her that she was coming to her place. That was the last they heard of Jasna.
The case of the missing girl created a furore in Kerala, after reports appeared stating she was spotted in Bengaluru among other places. Meanwhile, the Chengalpattu police recovered the charred remains of a young girl on Sunday night, who, like Jasna, had braces on her teeth. That is what prompted the Pathanamthitta police to travel all the way to Kancheepuram.
“Except the teeth, right now we have nothing to match the features of the missing girl and that of the body found in Chengalpattu.
There were some burnt clothes in a suitcase found near the body. But, Jasna had left the house empty-handed,” police sources here said.
Another dampener for the police team was that the body had a nose stud, but the missing girl did not wear one.
Further information is expected after the Kerala police team led by sub-inspector Ashraf begins the investigation on Saturday.
