‘Dokkan’ Raja of Pallakku Ma Nagar in Mylapore has 24 cases, including a murder case, pending against him. Raja used to accompany CD Mani as his driver whenever the latter goes to commit some offence. According to police sources, they have been trying to nab him for a long time. He used to visit his sister’s house in Mylapore but managed to escape from the eyes of police officers.
Six months ago, when his mother died, he didn’t attend the funeral fearing that he would get arrested by the police. .
On Saturday night, police received a tip-off that Raja is coming to Mylapore. Sub-inspector Ilayaraja and three other police officers rushed to the spot and surrounded Dokkan Raja. When he tried to escape, the sub-inspector chased him and caught hold of him. However, Raja pushed the sub-inspector and the officer suffered injures.
Raja was brought to the police station and remanded in judicial custody after investigation.
Weapons were also seized from him. Police said that Dokkan Raja was in hiding as his rivals were planning to murder him.
It may be noted that CD Mani, a notorious criminal of south Chennai, who is suspected to be involved in eight murder cases, is one of the gangsters still evading arrest. He is said to have taken part in Binu’s birthday celebrations last year, but he managed to escape from the spot while police surrounded the party venue off Outer Ring Road. Since then several gangsters have surrendered to police, including Binu, but CD Mani remains at large.
