Dr G R Ravindranath, general secretary of DASE, said that the retirement age for doctors should be retained at 58.
Listing a series of demands of the association, he said, “the stipend for post graduate students, who serve in government hospitals, should be increased as what they are paid at present is low when compared to other states.” Regarding the protest by medical students, Ravindranath said that students were agitated over the long break of six months to clear the arrears paper or papers.
“If they fail in an exam in the first year, they have to wait for another six months to clear the paper. Instead, they should be given a chance to write the paper again within a month,” he suggested
The association also demanded the removal of the rule which stipulates students to work in government institutions for period of one year after completion of their course. The association also wanted EXIT exam, which is mandatory to get a licence for practice, to be scrapped.
