Three killed as mini-lorry hits truck
Three people were killed as a container lorry turned turtle and caught fire after it was hit by a speeding mini-lorry near Sriperumbudur on Wednesday.

The lorry was proceeding towards the city from Bangalore. Around 4.50 am, when the lorry driver attempted to enter the National Highways from the service road, a speeding mini-lorry loaded with broiler chickens rammed it.
In the impact, the container lorry overturned and caught fire. Immediately, motorists and shop keepers informed the Sriperumbudur police and tried to douse the fire.
The driver and cleaner of the mini-lorry, Sagaya Elango and Manoharan, died on the spot with burns. The container lorry driver Sankar and Vetrivel were rushed to Sriperumbudur Government Hospital.
However, Vetrivel died without responding to treatment. Sriperumbudur police have registered a case.
Two from AP killed in accident
In the another incident, a 67-year-old woman and a 48-year-old tractor driver, both from Andhra Pradesh, were killed in an accident. According to police, Renuka Ammal and the driver were on her way to the city on a tractor to sell mangoes. When they were nearing Thandalam, a lorry which tried to overtake lost control and rammed the tractor.
In the impact, both of them were thrown off from the tractor and died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries. The lorry driver fled the spot after the incident. On information, Chengalpattu Taluk police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have launched a hunt for the lorry driver and are investigating.
In yet another accident in the same area, a 30-year-old man from KK Nagar died and his friend suffered injuries after their car collided head-on with a lorry near Maduranthakam on Tuesday night.
Palani and his friend Shaktivel were on their way to Tiruchy on the car when the accident took place. When the car was near Melvallam, Palani lost control of the vehicle and collided with a lorry.
While he died on the spot, Shaktivel was admitted to Chengalpattu Government Hospital. Maduranthakam police have registered a case.
