According to police, Chandra (55) of Muthiah Maistry Street in Old Washermenpet had leased her house to one Jameela (58) nearly 12 years ago.
After Jameela refused to vacate the premises, the owner filed a court case in this regard which is pending for the 10 years.
On Thursday, Chandra and Jameela were involved in a wordy quarrel when around 10 men, members of a political party, came in support of the latter. As the men created a ruckus, Chandra immediately called the Washermenpet police station after which Grade I constables Nagendran and Praveen were sent to the spot.
When the policemen tried to pacify both the parties, four men attacked Nagendran and escaped from the spot. Nagendran, who suffered injuries, was rushed to Stanley Medical College Hospital by fellow policeman Praveen and the public.
Following this, a case was registered and a police team arrested Neimudian (31), Wasim (26) and Amanulla (52), all three residents of Old Washermenpet. Police have launched hunt for one person in the case. All three accused were remanded in judicial custody.
In the most recent case of police personnel being assaulted, a man who was part of a group who attacked a policeman in Royapettah on July 2 was shot dead in an encounter the next day.
