Police identified the victim as Vishal of Sholavaram, who owns a jewellery shop in Karanodai. He was returning home from Chennai, along with five of his relatives on Thursday.
When they were crossing the Padianallur tollgate, the employees demanded levy.
According to police, Vishal allegedly told the tollgate staff that he need not pay the toll as he was a local resident. This reportedly led to an argument between them. Later, the staff members started attacking Vishal and his kin with wooden logs. Noticing some trouble, residents rushed to Vishal’s rescue and admitted him, along with his wife and brother, to a nearby hospital. Based on his complaint, Sholavaram police have registered a case and arrested the tollgate manager Javid (26). A hunt is on to nab two others.
