Chennai

What is the inspiration for your enterprise?

I have been into gardening since I was a child, encouraged by my mother who thought it was a great physical activity. I was initially growing medicinal and flowering plants, when a bout of food poisoning made me shift to vegetables. Now, in the last two years or so, my venture has helped set up more than 300 terrace gardens in the city.

What is the significance of the concept?

Chennai, Like Bengaluru, has turned into a concrete jungle in no time. There is a lack of space and that gives a lot of opportunity for terrace gardening. Once you grow your food, you can be best assured about its quality and it is chemical free. However, if you have space, I would suggest you still have a conventional garden.

What are the myths about terrace gardening?

People think you cannot grow all kinds of vegetables in it. I have even shown them that they can grow carrots, that many believe are not suited for the weather in Chennai. It is all about the placing of the plants. Many think that plants that can be grown on the ground cannot be cultivated on a terrace garden. That is not true, but the yield is not the same.
