Gang led by DMK man attacks hotel staff, party expels two
A group of inebriated men attacked employees of a restaurant in Virugambakkam on Sunday night, reportedly after the manager said that they were closed for the day. Police secured one person in the case and have launched a hunt for the remaining persons, including a DMK functionary.

While the incident took place three days ago, police intensified their action after the CCTV footage of the attack went viral on Wednesday. The secured accused has been identified as Rudrakumar.
The main accused, KL Yuvaraj, a DMK functionary, who was seen punching the hotel employee in their face several times, is absconding. Sources said that he recently joined DMK from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Earlier, he was in Tamil Manila Congress.
After the incident came out on Wednesday, DMK working president MK Stalin expelled Yuvaraj and another party member Diwakar. He also cautioned the cadre of stern action if they indulge in such activities.
The incident happened at Salem RR Biriyani restaurant on Kamarajar Salai in Virugambakkam. A group of men, led by Yuvaraj, entered the restaurant and demanded food for DMK cadre who have been camping outside the Kauvery Hospital, where DMK leader M Karunanidhi has been admitted.
When the manager Prakash told them that they were closed for the day, Yuvaraj got into an argument and started attacking him. The other men, who were waiting at the doorstep, joined him and attacked the employees of the restaurant. The CCTV footage shows leaving them after closing the shutter.
Anbu, owner of the biriyani shop, has told police that Yuvaraj has previous enmity with him after they both entered into an argument over parking of a vehicle in front of the shop.
