The 2 minutes and 30-second short film, titled ‘Moonram Kan (The Third Eye) featuring comedy actor Vivek, sensitises the importance of CCTV cameras in crime prevention and detection. Vivek had made the video with his own money through his Sai Prasanna Foundation and presented it to the city police for screening in theatres and televisions.
“CCTV cameras at buildings facing the road will help in crime detection. If the residents contribute to this cause by installing cameras, 80 per cent of the city will come under CCTV coverage. The remaining 20 per cent will be covered by the police who would install cameras at public places,” said the Commissioner.
MC Sarangan, Additional Commissioner (South) said that the CCTV cameras would act as a deterrent to offenders apart from helping in detection as well as digital evidence in the court. HM Jayaram, Additional Commissioner (North) said that the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has declared Chennai as the safest city in the country. “CCTV cameras will help in ensuring more safety,” he said.
