The fence measuring 100 meters on either side of platform 4 was brought down following a safety audit undertaken by the Chennai Railway Division following the accident at St Thomas Mount.

However, the fence, which claimed six passengers lives at that station, still remains standing. The incident happened when passengers traveling on footboard of a Beach – Chengalpattu passenger, which was diverted on fast line owing to overhead traction failure at Kodambakkam, hit the concrete wall along the fast line there.

Commissioner of Rail Safety Manoharan had visited the station and conducted an inspection before announcing a public hearing. Railway authorities had promised to undertake a safety audit of all suburban lines and do necessary modification to improve passenger safety.

The demolished wall at Pazhavanthangal station was perilously close to the street outside the station and other side of the express line.
