Youth cons showroom employee, escapes with phones worth 45,000
In what seems to be a novel method to steal mobile phones, a youth walked away with three phones, worth Rs 45,000, after conning an employee of a mobile showroom on Friday morning at Gummidipoondi. He allegedly told that he was the friend of the shop owner and also gave a SIM-less phone for charging in the shop.

The incident took place at a mobile shop near Gummudipoondi bus stand when its owner Nagaraj was not present.
The youth reached the shop when Anand Raj, employee of Nagaraj, was managing the store. He claimed that he knew Nagaraj well and asked the staff to sell him a mobile phone at a discounted rate. He also told that his mobile phone battery was completely drained and plugged it for charging in the shop.
Immediately, Anand Raj called Nagaraj, the owner of the shop. Though Nagaraj was not sure if he knew the customer, he advised his employee to give some discount to the customer to make a sale.
The customer then took three mobile phones, worth Rs 45,000 and went out of the shop saying his father, who is physically challenged, is waiting in the car nearby, would like to select the phone. Anand Raj agreed to it.
However, as customer failed to return, Anand Raj became aware that he was conned. When he checked the accused left for changing in the shop, it didn’t have a SIM card. The phone allegedly had no data in it.
Immediately, he informed his owner about the incident and lodged a complaint with the police.
