Gang steals phones from two persons

A group of unidentified men snatched smartphones from two persons, including a software engineer, in separate incidents at Perungalathur and Pallavaram on Sunday night.

The victims have been identified as J Jamuna Rani (22) of GKM Nagar in Perungalathur, who works in a call centre on OMR, and software professional Ramesh Kumar (26) of Mallika Nagar in Pallavaram.

In the first incident, Rani was returning on her two-wheeler after her duty hours. At around 11.30 pm, when she was nearing the Soorathaman Kovil in Perungalathur, three youngsters on a two-wheeler approached her. One of them attacked her, following which she fell. They took her smartphone worth Rs 20,000 and sped away from the spot. Later, Rani along with her father went to the Peerkankaranai police station and filed a complaint.

At the second incident around 12.30 am, Ramesh Kumar was walking towards his house after getting down from the office cab. At that time, three men on a two-wheeler came near him and snatched his smartphone worth Rs 33,000, which he had brought just 6 days ago. He later filed a complaint at the Pallavaram police station.
