Flights to and from Chennai airport hit
Nearly 30 flights were affected as the city and its suburbs witnessed moderate rainfall since Tuesday night till Wednesday. While some flights bound for Chennai were diverted to Bangalore and Hyderabad, others were made to wait mid-air before they could land at the city airport.

A Mumbai-Chennai flight was diverted to Hyderabad in the midnight while a London-Chennai flight scheduled to land in morning was diverted to Bangalore. Flights bound from Singapore, Kula Lumpur, Guwahati, Hong Kong, Delhi, Kochi, Mumbai and Pune had to wait mid-air before they could land at the city airport.
Moreover, flight scheduled to depart from Chennai airport, which were bound for Dubai, Singapore, Kula Lumpur, Dhaka, Columbo, Hong Kong, Guwahati, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Jaipur and Mumbai was delayed up to two hours.
Airport officials said many passengers and the staff of various airlines got stuck in the rain and could not report on time, which led to the delay in the flights. Passengers claimed that help desks too were closed.
Meanwhile, all flights bound for Kochi were cancelled to due heavy rain and flood situation in Kerala till Saturday.
