Dileepkumar, who is into weaving business, became friends with a ‘woman’ named Linda Boseman from England on social media. They later shared phone numbers. Linda Boseman reportedly told him that she was planning to visit India in connection with apparel business and claimed that she would send him a parcel of designer clothes beforehand.
A few days later, Dileepkumar received a call from a person claiming to be from a courier firm based in Delhi, asking him should pay Rs 48,500 in order to get his parcel that came from abroad. Believing the man, he paid the sum. Later, the person called him again and said foreign currency was found in the parcel by Customs officials at the Delhi airport. He sought Rs 98,000 more to clear the hurdles in getting it.
The man then demanded another Rs 1.5 lakh to get no-objection certificate from RBI and Dileepkumar obliged. However, when there was no response after that, he lodged a complaint at Tiruvallur superintendent office. A case has been registered and further inquiry is on.
