The accused Ajith alias S Ajith Kumar (21) of Nadukuppam and M Adhil Mafaz (23) of Parry’s Corner were remanded in judicial custody and three sovereigns and the stolen LED TV were recovered.

Swathi, an employee of a public sector bank, lodged a complaint that 10 sovereigns of gold jewels and other valuables were burgled from her house when she stepped out with her husband on August 2. After registering a case, inspector Malathi and her team of police personnel launched a hunt for the burglars. They got a tip-off that Ajith Kumar, a known offender facing many burglary charges in the past, could be involved in the heist. When they checked his whereabouts, the team found that he was a frequent visitor to Nadukuppam.

Coming up with a plan to nab him, the police team sent two sub-inspectors, Nirmal Kumar and Manimaran, and a head constable Emmanuvel, in plainclothes to Nadukuppam. There, they pretended to be ganja addicts. As Ajith Kumar, too, is addicted to ganja, they asked to meet him. Unaware of the plot, a local youth facilitated the meet-up.

As soon as they spotted Ajith Kumar, the policemen overpowered and arrested him. Based on his information, an aide, Adhil Mafez, was also arrested.
