Standing tall even after 225 years.

Established in 1794, College of Engineering, Guindy, (CEG) turned 225 years recently.

This institute was one of the first of its kind in the country and started out with eight boys. It became the Civil Engineering School in 1858 and was rechristened as College of Engineering in 1859, with the inclusion of a mechanical engineering course. 

The college was shifted for a short period to Kalas Mahal, Chepauk, before settling at its present location in 1920 as College of Engineering, Guindy.

India’s oldest technical institution, CEG was the first in the country to introduce various streams of engineering such as mechanical, highway, electrical, telecommunication and printing. In fact, telecommunications was introduced as early as 1945.
