Bribery Case: Madras High Court orders transfer of DVAC officers

The Madras High Court has given four weeks to Greater Chennai Corporation for the transfer of DVAC officers who were allegedly involved in corruption within the body.

Madras High Court today ordered Greater Chennai Corporation to transfer officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department who have widespread corruption within the body in a duration of four weeks.

The High Court ordered that all the officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation have to file their property documents within 12 weeks. A secret panel should be formed to inspect constructions that violated the norms.

The Madras High Court also ordered the DGP to form a new squad of officials to take charge of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing in the Chennai Coproration.

The Court earlier urged the Corporation Commissioner to submit a report by August 27 with details of corruption cases and the action taken by the body in such cases.

The corruption had reportedly caused frustration among the citizens who were forced to bribe the officials for their required documents.
