Police identified her as Nafeen Taj (44) of Ice House, wife of Sadiq Basha who runs a timber store in city.

“She claimed she decided to kill him because ‘he had sent Satan to her family,” police said after interacting with her at the hospital in the presence of doctors.

Syed Bazrudhin (62) of Washermanpet used to perform services like ‘warding off evil’ at his office on Triplicane High road, where she visited regularly.

When Bazrudhin was at his office around 8 pm on Monday, a woman in burqa entered the place. After an argument with him in Urdu, she threw kerosene on to the burning camphor, creating a fireball in which he was caught, police said.

He was rushed him to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where he died.

The Triplicane police browsed CCTV footage and ascertained her identity. But when a team went to her house, they found she had been admitted to IMH on Tuesday morning. Police said they were planning to get a court direction before arresting her on Friday. “We may also question her husband to know if she had any other enmity with the deceased,” police said.
