A team of policemen and Bomb Detection and Disposal squad who checked the parcel found that it contained country-made crackers.

The package wrapped in thick paper sheets, with two wicks protruding from it, was found on the footpath near the hospital gate at around 10 am. Some passers-by who spotted it alerted the police. “The police and bomb disposal squad along with sniffer dog Surya reached the spot,” police said.

When they opened it, police found country-made crackers with wicks, usually used in temple festivals in rural Tamil Nadu. The Flower Bazaar police that is investigating the case is checking the CCTV footage captured in the surveillance camera at GH gate. “We found that a rag picker was carrying the packet. As it got wet in the rain, he dropped it on the footpath,” police noted.
