Sources said that the godown belonging to Annamalai Industries in Sothupakkam near Red Hills was sealed by a team of five CBI officers from Delhi. It was already sealed by other agencies but as the probe is now taken over by the CBI, they decided to take over the control of the premise. It may be noted that the CBI sleuths probing the gutka scam – in which many police officers and ministers were accused of allowing trade of banned gutka after receiving bribe — grilled Madhav Rao, who owns MDM, one of the most popular gutkha brands here, on Wednesday. It all started with the Income Tax investigators stumbling on a ledger when they raided the godown in 2016, which showed large sums of money being given to officials as bribe to carry out gutkha business.
