Foreign currency seized at airport

Customs officials seized Rs 7.5 lakh worth foreign currency and Rs 5 lakh Indian money from two air passengers in separate incidents at Chennai airport.

On Wednesday the Customs officials received a tip off that a Bangkok-bound passenger was carrying Rs. 7.5 lakh worth Saudi Riyal in his hand baggage. Soon the officials seized the money and detained him for further enquiries. On Thursday night the officials while checking Kuala Lumpur bound passengers at the airport, found a passenger had hidden Rs 5 lakh cash in Rs 2,000 denomination inside his clothes. The officials found the money is unaccounted and seized it.
