Snatcher caught in escape bid, two phones seized
A snatcher who was riding pillion was caught by public when he tried to flee after snatching a pedestrian’s phone on Thiru-Vi-Ka bridge in Adyar on Monday night.

While two phones were seized from I Gulam Dhasthahir (20) of MKB Nagar, a hunt has been launched for the bike rider, Balaji of Kodungaiyur. The duo snatched the mobile phone of A Rabihul Islam (42) of Taramani, a security guard, when he was walking towards the bus stop in Adyar after work around 9 pm. When Rabihul raised an alarm, passers-by came to his help and secured the pillion rider, while the rider managed to escape.
Meanwhile, Abiramapuram police traced a phone stolen from a bank within hours and secured the thief. I Madhu Manjari (20) of RA Puram went to Canara Bank branch on RK Mutt Road on September 1. While she was filling a challan, her phone that was kept on the table went missing. Based on her complaint, Abiramapuram police looked into the CCTV footage and found a man stealing the phone. Police arrested the man, identified as R Karikalan (55) of Kosapet.
