The Greater Chennai Corporation has been carrying out a series of awareness campaigns, to advocate the ban of disposable plastic usage. With the help of Lion’s Club, cloth bags were distributed to the students, to ensure they don’t use carry bags. The students also had an awareness session on the harmful impact of plastic on the environment. They were also given a list of easily available alternatives such as banana leaf, jute bags and other such materials.
Close to 200 students participated in this event, where the Corporation officials also briefed them on the lifespan of the Aedes mosquito, which causes dengue and how they can safeguard themselves from the disease. Similar camps were organised in Ayothi Nagar Slum Clearance Board and the surrounding areas. The students marched with placards and distributed cloth bags and pamphlets to the people living in the nearby vulnerably areas.
