The Kalamin Agni Sirahugal Trust submitted that the marshland in Pallikaranai, the last one in the city, was assigned by the government to a company, to which the patta was also granted.

The trust secretary M Senthil Kumar said that on an enquiry, they came to know that the company was trying to pledge the marshland with another firm for a consideration of Rs 1,350 crore. The mortgage deed was presented for registration on April 16, 2018 and it was pending.

Expressing doubts over the involvement of several government officials in the deal, the petitioner sought a direction from the Court for a CBI inquiry into the alleged grabbing of the valuable marshland.
