Revamped MTC website to provide real-time information

“The website will be relaunched with new features, including an instant update of official announcements, financial performances, change in routes and others,” an MTC official said.

The corporation took the decision to revamp the site after receiving several complaints regarding the old website. “It was static and contained information, including the official documents, which were irrelevant. We decided to shutdown the website to carry out the maintenance works two weeks ago,” a higher official said.

The new website, which is designed to be dynamic, will be handled by an in-house technical team after its completion.

The MTC has entrusted the work with a private IT firm on a contract basis. “A tender will be floated inviting testing agencies to run a trial soon after its completion. At the final stage, the e-governance division under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances must certify the site before it goes live,” said an authority from the in-house technical wing.

A search engine will be made available to enable the commuters with an easy navigation across the city. “The passengers will be required to key in only the destination in the toolbar. They will be provided consolidated information on buses plying along the route with its departure time from the terminus, frequency of services and total duration of the journey.”

On the issue or renewal of bus passes, he said, “In order to facilitate the system, we need to have a secured payment gateway. It begets another process which we are currently not considering. The corporation is planning to continue to issue the passes physically in order to avoid duplication.”

The new website is expected to go live next month.
