Foreign notes burgled from car after diverting attention

An unidentified gang escaped with a bag containing foreign currency worth Rs 4 lakh and other documents from a car after diverting the attention of the driver.

The valuables belong to Ponnusamy of Nungambakkam, who had recently arrived from United States. On Friday, he hired a car to visit a couple of places in the city for official work and reached Vadapalani in the night. As Ponnusamy was away, his driver was waiting near the Metro Rail station. 

But when he returned, the travel bag in the car was missing. Ponnusamy had 5,000 US dollars and 100 euros, apart from his passport and other documents in the bag. 

Based on his complaint, the Vadapalani police have registered a case. In the CCTV footage recovered from the locality, police found that a group of men diverted the attention of the driver and escaped with the bag. Further inquiry is on to identify the suspects with the help of footage.   

Car window broken open; cash, phone burgled

Burglars, who target cars to steal valuables seem to have been on the prowl again in Anna Nagar, as a man lost his two mobile phones and Rs 15,000 on Friday night. 

The victim, Rafiq, had parked his car on the Third Avenue of Anna Nagar. When he returned a few hours later, he found the car window broken open. 

When he checked, the valuables kept in the car were found missing. Based on his complaint, the Anna Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
