The victims were identified as Kalaivanan, Kamalakannan, Prabakaran, Shanmugam, Rajesh, Kalaimani, Diwakar, all of them Redhills. In the petition, they had stated that they happened to meet Prabakaran of Chintadripet in 2017, who told them that his uncle is in an influential post in Indian Railways and has helped many people get employment.
Believing Prabakaran, the youngsters gave Rs 2.5 lakh each to him in August and September in 2017 in the hope that they would get jobs in Railways. However, since he did not get jobs for them as promised, they approached him demanding their money back.
Prabakaran, who initially gave excuses, recently refused to return the money apart from threatening them of dire consequences. As Prabakaran told them the local police will not take action against him, the youngsters approached the Commissioner’s office seeking to arrest him immediately. Their petition has been forwarded to the fake job-racket wing of Central Crime Branch and an investigation has been initiated, said police sources.
