Kannagi Temple to come up at Tambaram

“The central government allotted Rs 5 crore towards setting up of Cultural Centre and we have requested five acres of land for the Temple,” said Pandiarajan, after laying the foundation stone.

The foundation stone for Kannagi temple was laid in Kannagi park in Varadharajapuram and after the foundation stone was laid, Pandiarajan in his address said that many researchers are involved in the construction of the Temple. 

He also said that Kannagi is held in high esteem in Tamil society and is one of the revered characters often quoted for justice. State government takes honour in constructing the temple for Kannagi.

He further said that Silappathikaram is a secular work and should not connected with any one religion. “Silappathikaram is an epic and should not be confined to any religion. It is a universal work and has appeal across the communities”, said Pandiarajan. 

He also appreciated the members of Amizhthathamizh Research Centre for constantly encouraging people to do research on various aspects of Tamil language and in works related to Silappathikaram and Kannagi Temple.
