Imposter IAS officer cheats 2,300 people of Rs 5 crore, nabbed

The city police on Friday arrested a man who posed as an IAS official and cheated nearly 2,300 people to the tune of Rs 5 crore on the promise of getting them houses in the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board dwellings.

According to the police, Jagadish alias Ravikumar (33) of Tiruvarur was arrested based on a petition from Udayabaskar during the grievance meeting at the Commissionerate. Udayabaskar alleged that his friend Sardar Jebasingh and 40 others gave Rs 13.5 lakh to Jagadish after he promised to buy them apartments built by TNSCB in 2015. He also provided them fake allocation orders for the houses and keys. 

Following this, Central Crime Branch of the city police registered a case. During investigation, it was found that the Jagadish introduced himself as an influential person in the secretariat, and travelled in a car with a blue beacon on top.

He allegedly cheated 2,260 people, who were introduced to him through Jebasingh, Paul Sudhakar, Mahalinga Siva and Jayaraman with the promise of arranging them houses in the TNSCB dwellings in Semmancherry and Ayyapakkam. After the victims started putting pressure on him, Jagadish gave them fabricated allocation orders using fake seals and signatures in 2016. 

After investigation, police said Jagadish studied B Tech in Mehgalaya University, and had married the daughter of a retired BSNL official. Police seized a car Jagadish, who was remanded him in judicial custody.
