According to police, the parents of the child, Venkanna, a BPO employee, and Uma, were sleeping in the ground floor of their house on Traupadi Amman Temple street near Velachery lake on Friday night. As it was stuffy in the night, the couple had left the front door open for better ventilation.

It was to their shock that Venkanna and Uma realised when they woke up on Saturday morning that their two-month son, Saravik, was not to be seen in their home. After searching the house, they went in search of the child in the neighbourhood, but in vain. They then approached the Velachery police with a complaint.

When the police checked the CCTV footage from the neighbourhood after registering a case, the police officers found a woman passing by, with a child in hand, in the wee hours of Saturday. Suspecting her to be the child-lifter, police are trying to trace the identity of the woman so as to launch the hunt for her and the child.
