The zoo officials had been making a campaign pitch to encourage people to adopt animals for the past nine years. Sivakarthikeyan signed a letter expressing his ‘wish’ to adopt the 10-year-old Anu for six months. The actor would pay around Rs 2 lakh for this. “I wanted to adopt one of the 174 species of animals housed in the zoo. It is our responsibility to be compassionate to animals,” Sivakarthikeyan told zoo officials. The actor’s gesture is expected to inspire more like-minded individuals follow suit.
