Speaking at a function organised to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi here, Pandiarajan said that all the welfare schemes being implemented by the Centre were currently explained in Hindi, which most people do not understand in the state. “We will translate them into Tamil and continue the propaganda,” Pandiarajan said.

Replying to a question on Madhavaram botanical garden, he said, works were nearing completion and the park would be opened soon. He also added that in Tamil Nadu, 30 per cent of the people were affected with diabetics, so awareness programmes would be conducted by the government in an effort to bring down the rate of patients. The function conducted on behalf of Family and Welfare department included a rally, which was participated by school students.

The rally was inaugurated by Pandiarajan along with Member of Parliament of Tiruvallur constituency P Venugopal, Collector R Maheshwari and Superintendent of Police Ponni.
