Blue Cross director Dawn Williams received a complaint from the people in the neighbourhood that some birds and dogs were locked inside a house on the Tambaram-Darkas road. They said a man used to visit the house every 10 days to feed them.
On Monday morning, Williams along with the Somangalam police team went to the house. The police broke open the door and found the animals and birds locked in the cages. They also found a dead dog that was tied up inside the house. The police rescued animals and birds, which were then taken to the police station.
After preliminary inquiry, police found that the house belongs to one Pandian from Chennai, who used to come to feed the pets about three times a month.
Based on the complaint by Williams, police registered a case and search is on to nab Pandian. The rescued animals will be handed over to Vandalur Zoo.
