Man returns from Singapore, held for FB post criticising minister

The Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) sleuths on Friday arrested a man when he arrived at Chennai airport from Singapore for allegedly criticising Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar in a derogatory manner and was released on bail after he apologised before the magistrate.

He has been identified as Veeramuthu of Kattumannarkoil and the complaint relates his Facebook post in 2017. The cybercrime wing of CB-CID had registered a case against him and issued a look out notice for him. When Veeramuthu reached the airport on Friday, he was secured and handed over to the CB-CID sleuths. Sources said that he was produced before a magistrate at Saidapet Court. He was released on bail after he allegedly apologised for his remarks online.  Sources said that CB-CID sleuths have secured one more person, who arrived at the airport, for interrogation. However, no further details were available.
