The boy, son of Arun Kumar, was living in Chitrambalam apartment on Mambalam High Road. His mother was at home when the incident happened, said the police.
According to the police, Bharath was with his mother after his father Arun Kumar had left for the restaurant that he works in, on Thursday morning. He was playing in the balcony of the second floor flat that the family occupied, while his mother was busy with household chores. Playing without adult supervision, the child slipped and fell off the balcony, police added.
Only after hearing the boy’s cries did the mother realise he had fallen from the balcony. When she ran down in panic, she found that her son had suffered only minor injuries on the left side of his forehead.
Bharath was rushed to the Institute for Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore, where three stiches were given. On the advice of doctors, he was later shifted to the Government General Hospital for scan and other tests to make sure that there were no internal injuries, police said.
