Two detained at Chennai airport for trying to smuggle gold
Customs officers at the city airport on Sunday seized two kg of gold worth Rs 63 lakh from six women and arrested one of them.

The arrested woman, Juvairiya Fathima Nachiyar (42), an Indian passport holder, reached the airport from Singapore. On examining her, Customs officers recovered two gold chains and four gold bars. They said that the gold was concealed inside the inner garments worn by the passenger.
The jewels weighing 682 grams is worth Rs 22 lakh and Juvairiya was arrested for further investigation. On the same day, Customs officers screened five women - Seethamalani, Fathima Parsana, Kalyani Kumudhalatha, Vimalavathi Kumariharini and Sithy Rajeena - who reached the city from Colombo and recovered10 gold chains and eight cut bits of gold, totally weighing 1,291 grams. The jewels were worth Rs 41 lakh, said sources.
The women are being interrogated for further details.
