A CMWSSB statement on Saturday said the CMWSSB tanker lorries would clean the septic tanks of the houses and commercial establishments in Okkiyam Thoraipakkam, Madipakkam, Neelangarai, Perungudi and other areas located off Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
“Residents can contact 044 4567 4567 to book sewage tanker lorries,” the release said.
The OMR residents have been facing tough situations due to the strike by private tanker lorry owners that has lasted for nearly a week. The tanker lorry owners are opposing the CMWSSB’s decision of hiking charges for sewage disposal at treatment plants from Rs 100 to Rs 250.
While talks between the lorry owners and the authorities failed, the CMWSSB started operating its sewage tankers in the affected areas, where underground sewers are yet to be constructed. “The area is fast developing, but the officials are yet to provide underground sewers. So, we depend on the private tankers,” a resident said.
Meanwhile, an area engineer of the CMWSSB said that the Board had already started providing service and would operate tankers until thestrike ends.
