Engg student dies after fall from train

A 20-year-old engineering student died after falling from a moving suburban train, while his friend who tried to save him suffered injuries, near Tirumullaivoyal on Friday.

The deceased, Vinothkumar of Villupuram, was an engineering student at a private college in Tiruvallur. On Friday evening, Vinothkumar along with his friend Rashmika of Mogappair was travelling in an EMU train to Ambattur. When the train was near Tirumullaivoyal, Vinothkumar slipped and fell from the train.

Rashmika, who tried to save him, also lost balance and fell from the train. While Vinothkumar died on the spot, Rashmika has been admitted to a hospital with injuries on her head and face. Rashmika is said to be out of danger though she remained unconscious till Saturday. The Avadi railway police have registered a case in this regard.

In yet another accident, a sub-inspector’s mother was run over by a train in Chetpet on Saturday. The Egmore railway police said that the deceased, Amudha, was the mother of sub-inspector Mohanavalli, a resident of Kilpauk police quarters.

It is said that Amudha went out to buy milk along with her granddaughter Dharshini. When they were crossing the track near Chetpet railway station, an EMU train fatally knocked down Amudha while Dharshini escaped with minor injuries.
