Woman, 3 others nabbed with fake notes in city

The Madhavaram police arrested four persons, including a woman, in possession of fake notes worth Rs 68,500.

On Sunday, a man bought liquor at a Tasmac shop on MRH Salai in Moolakadai and gave a Rs 500 note. The supervisor found it to be counterfeit. Based on his complaint, the Madhavaram police arrested B Subramaniyam (32) of Madhavaram.


Based on his inputs, the police raided a house at Vyasarpadi and seized fake Rs 500 notes, a laptop, printer, cutting equipment and paper bundles. The investigation revealed that the house owner, Shahul Hamid (48), printed the notes and circulated it in the market. Subramaniyam borrowed Rs 10,000 from one J Rabia (30) of Tondiarpet, who got the money from Shahul Hamid. One more suspect S Palaniswamy (50) has also been arrested. Police said that two lorry drivers Ramesh and Suresh allegedly handed over the equipment to Shahul Hamid and a hunt has been launched for them.
