7 college students held for damaging bus

Seven college students will spend their Christmas behind bars after they were arrested and remanded in custody for damaging a MTC bus near government multi super specialty hospital on arterial Anna Salai on Tuesday morning. This came a day after two students of a rival college were remanded in custody following clashes.

On Tuesday morning, a fight broke out between students of New College and Presidency College inside a MTC bus that was heading from Broadway to Mylapore (route No 21).


As the bus was damaged in the clash, the crew lodged a complaint at Triplicane police station. After investigation, police arrested New College students S Syed Nasid (first year economics student) of Periyar Nagar, J Irfan (second year BSc student) of Periyar Nagar, S Logesh (second year BSc student) of Tiruvallur, A Haroon Batsha (second year BA student), M Kotishwaran (second year BSc student) of Arakkonam, P Tendulkar (first year BSc) of Arakkonam and A Abdul Haium (second year BSc) of Arakkonam.


They were produced before the magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody till December 31.
